The Siddha Clinical Research Unit was established on 6^th February 1980 in the premises of Government Siddha Medical College campus, Palayamkottai. This Clinical Research Unit is functioning in the out-patient and the in-patient departments of the college.

The Government of Tamil Nadu has permitted the unit to utilize the Pathology and Bio-chemistry laboratories of the college for investigations of the patients.

Survey of Medicinal Plants Unit: Survey of Medicinal Plants Unit was established in 1972 in the premises of Government Siddha Medical College, Palayamkottai. The Survey of Medicinal Plants Unit (SMPU), to its credit, has surveyed around 300 forest areas, which include both Eastern and Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu. A Herbarium hall with 9000 Herbarium sheets covering 1986 individual species and a Museum with 1000 crude drug materials are maintained. In June 2009 the SMPU was shifted to Sivaraj Siddha Medical College, Salem and subsequently shifted to Mettur dam in August 2010 and amalgamated with Siddha Medicinal Plants Garden.

The Principal of Government Siddha Medical College was acting as the Honorary Project officer of this unit. Besides rent-free accommodation, electricity and sanitary services are made available free of cost to this unit by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
